From Hostility to Hospitality:

The Enneagram as a Tool for Deepening Compassion for Self & Others

Wednesday Afternoons, 1-2:30 pm

October 29-November 19, December 3

Exact dates:  October 29, November 5, 12 & 19, Dec 3

(5 sessions total)

With increasing animosity and violence in our national politics, it can feel harder than ever to stay fully human, and to keep seeing the full humanity in others when the temptation to dehumanize if not flat out demonize others is so strong and dangerous. There are so many things - social media, toxic polarization, and authoritarian agendas--that are fracturing us, our relationships, and our democracy. But we still desperately need to stay centered and peaceful within ourselves, stay in loving connections with others, and stay engaged in the public arena.  When we’re tempted to self-isolate, how do we keep connecting and reaching out in compassionate ways?  Can we sustain or restore some measure of civility and mutual respect in our relationships, and discern how to live and work together in more peaceful ways, even with substantive disagreements on any number of things?

The Enneagram offers us so much wisdom, not only for understanding ourselves, but also understanding others.  With different personalities come different ways of communicating, and different ways of approaching disagreement and conflict.  It shows us both the gifts and challenges we bring to our own relationships and conversations.  It can also reveal the significant differences between us, that may often lead to misunderstanding and conflict, but when recognized, can at least be understood and honored, rather than becoming fuel for more animosity and hurtful exchanges.

In this group, we will:

  • Review the Enneagram system of personalities

  • Deepen understanding of our own personality, particularly as it’s showing up in these stressful times

  • Practice self-compassion and loving-kindness toward others

  • Reflect on our own relationships and dialogues and how we might engage differently

Please note:  You must have some working knowledge of the Enneagram and your personality type to participate; Kimberly will offer an Intro to the Enneagram with Typing Guidance online prior to our group start date, or you can schedule a one-on-one spiritual direction session for typing)
