New Deep Dive Group
Love Actually: The Sacred Art of Conflict
Wednesday Mornings, 10 am - Noon
October 28-December 9 (Skipping Nov 25)
In person at Deep Waters at North Decatur UMC
Guided by Kimberly Broerman, Spiritual Director, Deep Waters Center
We are created by God as relational beings. Indeed our relationships, our lived experience of love and belonging, or their counterparts, have a huge impact on our sense of meaning and happiness. That doesn’t mean sustaining authentic, healthy relationships is easy! In our actual, lived experience, especially in these anxious, divisive times, our relationships can be tense, confusing, and downright painful. It is no surprise to me that so many of my conversations, both in one-on-one spiritual direction and in small groups, focus on the real life challenges of our varied relationships, and navigating the conflicts that arise within. How do we make peace with our wonderful, flawed selves? How do we name, communicate and hold healthy boundaries? How do we engage difficult conversations when differences and tensions arise?
As we approach another fraught election season, and the holiday season with family and friends, this small group will examine how we currently handle conflict, learn more about the art of fighting, and practice engaging hard conversations in new, more fruitful ways.
In this season of Love Actually, we will talk about how we navigate conflict in the primary relationships in our lives. Each session, we will take a deeper dive into one of these key relationships, sharing our stories and struggles, listening to wisdom from one another and various writers, and engaging in reflection and conversation about the hard and holy work of embracing conflict as a way to deepen our love and connection. As with every Deep Waters small group, we will create and hold space together where we can share the hard truths of being human, learning from and supporting one another, as we each and all navigate the particular relationships we hold dear.
